Further up the family tree...

The Swain family.

George Swain (b.1878, Hastings) lived at 90a High Street, Hastings, with his sisters Nellie Swain, Lizzie Swain and Louie Swain, and brother Fred Swain. George moved to Surbiton/Tolworth and worked as a house painter/decorator.

Their parents were Mercy Ann Reeves and Phillip John Swain (b.1845, Hastings) had three brothers: William Swain, Victor Swain and Charles Swain, and a sister Elizabeth Swain. Phillip worked as a house painter/decorator in Hastings.

Their mother and father were Charles Dearing Swain (b.1811, Hastings, the illegitimate child of Maria Swain and unknown - though his father's surname was most likely Swain, not hers) and Elizabeth Redding (b.1806 Bearton, BUCKS).
